In Maya Angelouââ¬â¢s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Alice Walkerââ¬â¢s The Color Purple, important aspects of the African American womenââ¬â¢s experience in America in the early/mid. 1900ââ¬â¢s are discussed such as the physical abuse and emotional abuse they endured and their social standing in society. In both novels you are able to witness the anguish and persecution that these women had to undergo. Maya from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Celie from The Color Purple are the main characters and we see that they are both differentiated against during their journeys of life. Men in their lives take advantage of both women and they are used for sexual pleasure, and as slaves. Sophia s swollen, beaten face is described as the color of eggplant . Purple is the color of Celie s private parts: the site of her sexual violation. (Fiske, 153) Since the average African American woman got beaten almost to death, and was sexually assaulted until they were not even recognizable, the novelââ¬â¢s name fits it quite well. Fiske tells us that the colour purple describes what Sophia and Celie looked like after they had been beaten and sexually abused so many times by the men in their lives. The Color Purple was a story that resembled Oprah Winfreyââ¬â¢s life as well. Oprah was ââ¬Å"raped as a child, but there was more to come. Charismatic style of Leadership Free Essays
I have chosen the leader of a local foundation in our community who had been in the public eye due to his tireless efforts and initiative in addressing the homeless problem that are common even in suburban America. The person exhibits all three characteristics which include firstly, charm and grace, a primary characteristic of charismatic type of leadership. Secondly, the leader has the ability to command respect because he has immense self-belief that he can accomplish a lot for the homeless people. The leader employs different methods or strategies to get the attention of the followers, is very persuasive and very effective in using gestures and body language (ââ¬Å"Charismatic Leadership, 2007). When this person leads his team, he tries to create a distinction about his group in contrast with that of others. He builds the uniqueness of the group in the eyes of members and makes efforts to solidify the groupââ¬â¢s adherence to the leader but the members expect as well of their leaderââ¬â¢s loyalty towards them. He exhibits leadership skills coupled with a positive outlook and is other ââ¬âoriented which results to changes for the good of the team usually (ââ¬Å"Charismatic Leadership, 2007).
